UN placards in accordance with the international maritime dangerous goods - Clinical waste labels
- UN substance numbering is an IMDG requirement on road and rail tanks, freight vehicles, freight wagons and containers, and is displayed by either the use of diamond shaped placards 250 x 250mm (minimum size) with black 65mm high numerals or an orange rectangular panel 300 x 120mm with 65mm high numerals.
- NB. When the latter method is used the panel must be accompanied by the appropriate hazard diamond with class number as shown in the IMDG range.
- In order to fully comply with labelling regulations, all rigid containers approved for transportation by road must have two-colour (black and white) permanent labelling to the front of the container. Any existing UN approved rigid containers currently in use with either single colour stamping or no permanent labelling at all, may be used until end of life (or until 2015). It is the responsibility of the operator of the container to comply with labelling regulations not that of the manufacturers.
