Case Study
With the safety of users and rail passengers as the most important consideration, one of Britain’s most famous entrepreneurial companies, Virgin Trains, in conjunction with Rail Gourmet, turned to H.C. Slingsby plc. for help with their latest materials handling project.
An easy to manoeuvre powered handling product was required, with the capability to transport heavily laden service trolleys to and from stationary trains. The project was soon underway and a number of innovations were necessary as part of the design phase. A safety beacon and continuously sounding buzzer were incorporated to ensure passenger awareness, whilst easy to master controls and extra rigid construction contribute to a safer transporter.
The simple functionality of the product permits more frequent loading at intermediate stations and so helps ensure continuity of supply for Virgin Trains’ customers.
In answer to the need for 24-hour operation, Slingsby also developed a purpose built battery trolley and battery pack to cope with the extra heavy-duty demands. The service trolleys are loaded onto the transporter using the integral ramps.
