ALTHOUGH trolleys supplied by industrial and commercial equipment provider Slingsby are a common sight in workplaces throughout the UK, they were the centre of attention at a recent charity event held in front of thousands of visitors in London's Hyde Park.
The Springboard Slingsby Challenge is a Grand Prix style event that is organised by the Springboard Charitable Trust which helps young, unemployed and disadvantaged people to train for and pursue careers within the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism industries.
Teams from some of the UK's most prestigious hospitality businesses, including The Savoy & Simpsons in The Strand and London's Hyatt Regency, participated in the event where they had to theme and decorate a Slingsby trolley before completing laps of a course set out in Hyde Park.
Christian Slingsby, sales director of Shipley based Slingsby explains: “Since the first Springboard Slingsby Challenge was held three years ago, it has grown significantly and we're delighted to be able to support Springboard and help to improve people's career prospects. It's great fun for everyone involved and offers a fantastic platform to raise money for the charity and raise awareness of its work.”
The Lancaster London Hotel won the event after the team dressed as bee-keepers and gave their trolley a bumble-bee theme in recognition of the bee hives that the hotel is famous for housing on its roof.
Other themes included a motorcycle and side-car, Queen's carriage complete with footmen, a giant teddy-bear, a plane with team of pilots and a Hawaiian beach scene. Prizes were presented to the teams by Celebrity TV Presenter Leah Charles.
