Despite ongoing talk about major cutbacks in the education sector Slingsby is still reporting strong sales of its products to both schools and colleges.
The company supplies everything from lockers and catering equipment through to cycle shelters and storage products and always experiences a rise in sales as the start of the new financial year approaches which is a trend that is being mirrored again this year.
Recent research from the Institute for Fiscal Studies suggests that public spending on education in the UK is falling at its fastest rate since the 1950s and the organisation expects to see falls of 13% in real terms between 2010-11 and 2014-15.
Lee Wright, Marketing Director of Slingsby, explains: “The new financial year is always a key time for schools to invest in new equipment and plan improvements and this year looks no different. Although some major upgrades may have been placed on hold things such as maintenance products, cleaning equipment and anything relating to safety can’t be ignored.
“The simple fact is there will always be essential items that need replacing meaning that even though there’s lots of talk about budgets being slashed both schools and colleges are still spending money but they are placing more emphasis on buying products that are long lasting and good quality.”
