Heavy duty wheeled trolleys are the must have accessory for 2012 according to workplace equipment supplier Slingsby which is seeing sales of its products soar as people look for ways to make life easier and become increasingly aware of back injuries that can occur from heavy lifting.
The company supplies more than 35,000 products to organisations across all industries but is renowned for its industrial strength hand trucks and trolleys which it has been selling since 1893.
Although these have always been popular with commercial customers Slingsby is now reporting strong sales of its trolleys to the domestic market where they are proving to be especially popular with festival goers, gardening enthusiasts and even shoppers.
Lee Wright, Marketing Director of Slingsby explains: “In recent years we have seen sales of trucks and trolleys steadily increasing to the domestic market in line with increasing awareness of back injuries caused by manual handling. Whilst most workplaces have taken steps to reduce such injuries, until recently, many people have ignored the risks at home even though everyday activities such as gardening and shopping often result in lots of heavy lifting.
“Plus large numbers of people are buying them for music festivals, which is not surprising when you consider how far the car parks often are from the campsites and the amount of equipment, luxuries and other supplies that people take to these events.”
Finally Lee adds: “The fact these products now have so many uses in the domestic market seems a crazy phenomenon because these are products that we have been supplying to all types of workplaces, across every industry, for more than 100 years but it soon makes sense because a lot of these trucks come with rubber tyres so they cope well on grass and even the cheapest ones which start at less than £30 can carry 50kg.”
